Hello and Welcome to The Beret. Some of you may already know me as Dei Enyt, or The Blind Archer. As you can see, I have set up a second LiveJournal account. Why? Well, for one simple reason. I’m going to start my movie reviews again, and I’d like to keep them separate from the rest of my entries.
Now, let me explain a few things. I’m not like most critics in the way that I have full access to every movie in existence. I see one movie a week at most, due to my transportation circumstances. As for the movies themselves, there are a few things I should tell you. I absolutely will NOT review...
Movies rated R or above,
Horror or slasher films,
Chick flicks,
Documentaries,
movies that are no longer in theaters,
or movies that have no real plot (i.e. the Scary Movie series)
My goal is to review movies that a large audience will enjoy, especially those with a wide range of ages. This stems from my personal tastes, yes, but also that not everyone will like the gory horror movies or the ditzy chick flicks that seem to do so well in the box office.
For the most part, I will be reviewing movies in the action and comedy genres. These two are my favorite type of movie, and will be the primary focus of my reviews. If I so desire, I’ll throw an oddball choice in there, just for some variety. Works by Pixar are definitely a shoe-in for me.
As for my method of critique, I’m not going to pick apart every little detail and rant about everything I find wrong with the movie, because that’s what English teachers do on essays. Last I checked, I wasn’t grading movies, but recording my thoughts on them. If there’s a particular tidbit of the movie I like, then I’ll mention it. Don’t worry, though, I’m not going to try to give everything a good review. As for my rating system, there won’t be one
If you’re trying to find me when going to theaters anytime soon, I’m in the Fresno (CA) area while I am home from school, and my theater of choice is Edwards at River Park. During school, I’m in the Monterey/Marina area, though I’ve yet to find a theater near the campus. My most recognizable movie-going habits are having a large cola, the choice of a seat on the side of the theater, especially in stadium seating, and that I put on my beret just as the movie begins. While at home, I try to review one movie every Thursday afternoon, for those of you who would like a solid schedule.
Now that that’s done, sit back, remember to silence your cell phones, and enjoy the show.
